Our Mission

“Our mission is to provide each patient with a comfortable, respectful experience, as well as delivering the best possible vein treatment.”


For over 20 years, Dr. Bohn, Dr. Nielsen, and Dr. Castillo have been treating patients.


“Dr. Nielsen and I orignally trained in family practice,” says Dr. Bohn. “For us, it’s like getting back to those roots in a way. We now have an ongoing relationship with our patients.”


Almost immediately, the importance of vein care became apparent to the team. Our physicians completed advanced Fellowship training in Phlebology and opened The Vein Specialists, Bloomington LLC, dedicated exclusively to the state-of-the-art treatment of vein disease.

“We realized this couldn’t be a part-time practice. This needs to be a full-time practice,” Dr. Nielsen explains, “We do this all day, every day. We can give the proper detailed attention to all our patients and see them in a timely manner without undue interruption.”


“This is a disease that hasn’t received a lot of attention. There’s a lack of understanding about varicose veins and treatment options,” Dr. Castillo explains. “The medical community is just starting to realize this. There are a lot of patients out there that can benefit from treatment and we’re able to meet that need.”


That need is proven by medical insurance company numbers. “Ninety-five percent of what we do is covered by insurance. Only five percent is truly cosmetic,” Dr. Nielsen says. “This is not a cosmetic problem. This is a medical problem.”


Treatments are covered by Medicare and most insurance plans.
