Spider Vein Symptoms

Most of the time Spider Veins in and of themselves are considered a cosmetic problem and are not threatening to your overall health. They are seen as unsightly and embarrassing and they can interfere with social or physical activities. However, Spider Veins can also be related to these symptoms:

  • aching
  • cramping, night cramps
  • burning
  • tingling
  • heaviness in the leg
  • legs that tire easily

Spider Vein Symptoms usually get worse throughout the day and can be worse at night after being on your feet all day. Women may have more symptoms during menstruation. In general the symptoms can be worse with warmer weather. People usually get relief by walking or putting the legs up.

Whether the symptoms are caused by Spider Veins or the veins deeper under the skin that feed the Spider Veins is still unknown. These symptoms are usually associated with more severe vein disease, such as Varicose Veins and Venous insufficiency. It is important to note that one form of disease, Spider Veins, does not cause the other form of disease, Varicose Veins, and vice-versa. They can be caused by similar underlying factors. This is why it is important to check for vein disease even if you only have Spider Veins.
